Mimic is a family of File Transfer emulators and conversion utilities. The goal of Mimic is to allow users to replace existing File Transfer technology in a managed way minimizing the cost and risk of the process.

Mimic reduces the effort and risk users would expose themselves to in order to make a product change.

Mimic provides two complimentary technologies to assist in migration :

Emulation

Mimic emulates the interface of the existing product and translates these to the commands of another File Transfer product. Scripts and Jobs do not change and execute as normal - Mimic provides a real-time translation.

Users can choose their destination product, Mimic supports a number of products and can easily support others.

By emulating the existing product Mimic makes it easy to try using another Managed File Transfer product :

• There is no need to change applications which reduces risk and cost
• Applications can be migrated gradually to manage risk
• Fallback in the case of problems is easy 

Mimic allows users to simulate emulation to test the emulation concept before they migrate to production operation.

Translation

Mimic also helps users to re-tool at their own pace by providing utilities to convert to the users new MFT - Mimic translates:

• Control statments
• Netmaps
• JCL
• Processes

Mimic also provides tools to help users identify MFT jobs and scripts - reducing the effort in the scoping of a migration project.
